ReelAgree vs Letterboxd: Which Fits Movie Night?
ReelAgree and Letterboxd both involve movies, but they solve different problems.
Letterboxd is a social film discussion and discovery platform. ReelAgree is a private group-decision workflow for finding a movie or show that several people are willing to watch.
The shortest answer
Choose Letterboxd to log films, rate and review them, follow people, build a watchlist, and participate in a film community.
Choose ReelAgree when a specific group needs to react independently to the same catalog and reveal shared picks before planning movie night.
Group collaboration
ReelAgree supports groups of up to eight active members. Members mark titles like, pass, or seen. Choices stay hidden during each person's decision, and the results surface candidates, majority group picks, and unanimous matches. Guests can join and vote; an account is required to host persistent groups and keep history across devices.
Letterboxd supports lists, private lists, watchlists, following, comments, and shared links. Its official FAQ explicitly says multiple members cannot edit the same list. The reviewed official sources do not establish a private-ballot or consensus-room workflow.
Discovery and film history
Letterboxd is stronger for a personal film diary, reviews, ratings, public lists, and social discovery. Its official FAQ also describes tools for filtering watched, liked, rated, logged, reviewed, and watchlisted films.
ReelAgree has a reviewed movie-and-show catalog focused on group voting. It does not provide a public review network, a critic-following system, or a general-purpose film diary.
Platforms and pricing
ReelAgree's web app is free and available now. iOS and Android releases are still being prepared. Its source defines an optional one-time Plus purchase for premium visual themes, but the Store product is not yet publicly available; core discovery, group, voting, consensus, and planning remain free.
Letterboxd is available on web, iOS, Android, and Apple TV. It remains free with optional annual Pro and Patron plans. On August 29, 2026, its US page listed Pro at $19 per year and Patron at $49 per year. Verify current official pricing because regional and tax differences can apply.
Privacy boundaries
ReelAgree hides individual choices while members are deciding. Group membership and decisions are stored in its Cloudflare-hosted service. It is not described as end-to-end encrypted or local-only. Accounts use third-party identity services when configured, and optional crash diagnostics require separate consent.
Letterboxd is designed as a social network. Its FAQ says profiles and much member activity are visible, while lists, watchlists, and individual entries have privacy controls. Letterboxd does not currently offer fully private accounts. Its privacy notice describes the data and advertising boundaries in more detail.
Streaming availability
Neither product should be chosen solely as a neutral streaming-availability guide. ReelAgree does not show provider availability or stream content. Letterboxd now offers a curated Video Store and paid-member streaming-service filters, but that is different from ReelAgree's group workflow and may not answer every regional availability question.
Who should choose something else
Choose JustWatch or another availability guide when the primary question is where to watch. Choose a shared document when the group needs custom catalog entries. Choose a simple poll when the shortlist is already fixed and visible voting is acceptable.
The useful comparison is not which product has more features. It is whether tonight's problem is building a film life or reaching a group decision.
